Sponsors help make dream a reality
Reaching a final at the Commonwealth Games at the age of just 14 is a fantastic achievement for Gabe Armstrong Scott who also chalked up a personal best score of 306.70 points on platform in Delhi, breaking her own New Zealand record by some 23.55 points.
WHPA acknowledges the unwavering support of major sponsors Infratil and Wellington International Airport Limited who helped to make the Commonwealth Games dream a reality. Their vision and belief in the WHPA programme has allowed us to attract elite diving coach Steven Zhu to Wellington. It also enabled Gabe to follow a high performance pathway that took her around the world competing in her build-up to the Games. Having the backing and support from business for what is a minority sport in New Zealand opens up opportunities for future divers like Gabe to reach the highest levels.
For Gabe, Delhi was the result of many, many hours of hard work, determination and sacrifice, but it was just the beginning. Inspired by what she’s experienced, she now has her sights set on the Olympics in London 2012. Go Gabe!
